Grinder Point is a low sandstone headland located 3 km north-east of Cape Liptrap. A small dune covers the back of the point. On either side of the point are two south facing beaches. The cape provides some protection for the beaches, which receive waves averaging between 1 and 1.5 m. The east beach is 500 m long, with extensive rocks and reefs in the inter- and sub-tidal zone. The west beach is 1 300 m long and receives slightly higher waves. It has fewer rocks, with permanent rips forming against the rocks at either end and the reef in the centre.
